Feliz año nuevo!

We have been staying in Cusco since returning from the trek, and so I have regular access to the internet! Yesterday we slept in and spent the afternoon on a whirlwind city tour of Cusco, which was a little too touristy and disappointing after our adventure on the Inca Trail.

And today I have managed to come down with a cold (probably from the let down of adrenalin from the trek), and spent most of the morning sleeping while mein Schatz and his dad took a tour of pre-Inca ruins outside of the city. Then I joined them for some traditional Peruvian food — the specialty is cuy or guinea pig. We weren’t feeling adventurous enough to try cuy, especially since I have many childhood memories of pet guinea pigs — but we did take a picture, which I can’t wait to post when I get home. It’s literally a whole skinned guinea pig roasted and served on a plate!

Tonight we will celebrate New Year’s Eve at a local bar somewhere in the city, but it won’t be too crazy for me since I want to make sure I feel well enough for our day long tour of the Sacred Valley tomorrow. We head to Lima, the capital city, on Monday morning and will stay there until we fly home on Wednesday morning.

Best wishes for the New Year!
