Anticipation

We spent two hours in line anticipating the chance to check out the Wooster Collective’s 11 Spring Street project. Street artists from all over the world have come to New York to “produce a massive street art installation on the outside and inside of the property” before 11 Spring Street is turned into condos by the new owners. The art was free to view for only three days (until 5pm today), and the line circled around the Bowery, past Rivington and beyond. Needless to say, the turnout has been overwhelming. The best part about the whole thing is that “once it’s over, the owners of the building will renovate and the walls will not be destroyed, but will be covered.” I love the idea of someone in the future accidentally uncovering the walls and seeing all this fantastic art hidden beneath it.

Disappointingly enough, we were still about 45 minutes away from the entrance by the time they shut the doors today. Still, I hope by contributing to the demand of such an event, more street art installations like this will take place. Plus, there are plenty of pictures online to help curb some of our unfulfilled anticipation. You can check out lots of amazing photos at the Gothamist here and here, plus through an 11 Spring Street Flickr group.

You can also read lots more about other kinds of anticipation here.
