Jared Smiles Update | Montana to Missouri

About time for another update about my cousin Todd’s progress as he bikes across the U.S. raising awareness of muscular dystrophy and money for his nephew’s care.  Around this time last month, Todd was leaving Missoula, Montana behind.  And today he is in Missouri, about two-thirds of the way to his goal!  Or as his blog header says: 2848 miles traveled, 1352 miles left.

I highly recommend reading his blog posts, describing all the people he meets and stories he has along the way.  But just to give you a short little synopsis of the last month’s ride, here’s a selection of his Tweets:

July 19: Leaving Darby Mt – on to Wisdom, home of the Big Hole River (my fav fishing place).

July 25: Saw old faithful yesterday, should be out of Yellowstone today. Lots of elk roaming in my campground – very tame.

July 31: 5:15 pm, In Rawlings Wy. heading to Saratoga for the night after a snack… A 100 mile day!

August 3: I should be cresting the highest point on my trek (Hoosier Pass -11,542 elev) around noon and as they say, it’s all down hill from there!

August 4: Made it to Canon City about 2 pm having lunch downtown and it’s off to Pueblo tonight.

August 8: Having lunch in Tribune Kansas at the moment, heading east for a 100++ mile day.

August 9: the website nearly has had 800,000 visits so far, far exceeding my expectations. I’m very pleased, keep checking back, new blog posts soon!

August 9: Have a great day and keep Jared in your prayers. He is an incredible inspiration!

August 10: In Larned Kansas tonight, camping at the city park. I hope tennis lessons don’t start too early as I’m 5 feet from the courts!

August 12: Slept under the stars (and Perseid meteor show) last night in the tiny town of Rosalia KS. Beautiful night, great day today!

August 14: Finally out of Kansas and into Missouri, people are great in KS but the terrain is beyond monotonous.

August 17: Chipping away at Missouri, has been a difficult state to ride in with dicey roadways, suspect drivers, and fatigue.

Don’t forget, you can also participate in this great adventure!   JaredSmiles.org is the website where you can see the route, learn more about Jared, and of course, make a donation.
