This Time Last Year: June 2010

It’s been quite some time since I’ve done a This Time Last Year post. Since there are some new readers out there, I thought I’d start it back up again as a nice way to catch you up, without you having to go back and read through all the archives.  So, without further ado, here’s what was going on in June 2010 (apparently I was doing little else besides watching the World Cup) — just click on the link to be taken to the full post!

Noch einmal: If you’ve been hanging out here for awhile, you might remember that way back when I arrived in Germany, I spent a couple months in intensive German courses provided by my fellowship.  My ability to communicate practically quadrupled by the time it was over, and I felt like I had a good foundation for my life in Deutschland…

Five Senses Friday no. 27: As this post is being published, I’m far away from my laptop — and sitting in a train that’s making its way to a small town on the Polish border, to chill with friends for the weekend. (Don’t worry, the US vs. Ghana quarterfinal game is on the agenda for Saturday night.)  A change of scenery is long overdue, since the last few weeks have been primarily devoted to my German class and watching the World Cup

Die Weltmeisterschaft 2010: In my regular life I’m not a soccer fanatic, but this year I’m making a major exception for the World Cup.  Yesterday I set a personal record and saw three games in one day — the Germany and US (we were robbed!) games were on purpose, and the England game by chance. And I’ll probably do it once more on the 23rd when Germany and the US play back to back again.
