Frohes Neues!

Sparklers

We’re in Hannover for our third visit this month, this time to ring in the new year with some old friends of mein Schatz.  And what would the last day of the year be without a good run?  So we’re participating in Hannover’s Silvesterlauf around the Maschsee (5.8K).  (More details on the race to come in another post!)

This year is coming to an end without a terrible amount of reflection on my part about what it has all meant, or what I wish for myself in 2013.  When I do look back though, there are definitely a few small personal successes worth celebrating.

  • I beat my own record in the 10K and have become a tiny bit speedier overall.
  • My article from my research in Hamburg was accepted for publication.
  • For the first time since I was 20, I became credit card debt free.

But 2013 is the year for the really big and scary goals.  Goals that make me nervous when I think about them.  Goals that will require more dedication and effort than I can imagine.  Like finishing my dissertation.  Like running a sub-2:00 half-marathon.

But in addition to all that work, I am so excited for what’s to come!  I can’t wait to spend two months working and traveling in Norway.  I am also very ready to start slowly transitioning away from Bremen and into full-time life in Berlin.  The coming year is going to be an intense ride, but I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s all going to be worth it!

So here’s wishing you a very good slide into the new year, and all the best for 2013!

Have you taken time to reflect on 2012?  Are you looking forward to the coming year?  How are you celebrating?
