Train Sunset
A stunning sunset on the train ride home from Hamburg. Via Instagram.

One of my favorite things about summer in northern Europe are the extra longs days.  During the week, I hardly even experience the darkness — trying to going to bed by 10:30 pm when it’s still somewhat light out and waking up around 7:00 am when it’s bright as day (yes, I require that much sleep).  Even better are the 9:30 pm sunsets, don’t you think?

What’s your favorite part about summer?

I require that much sleep, too! :)

I dislike the really late daylight, though…it messes with my sleep rhythms and the time I eat dinner gets later and later. My ideal is sunset at 7 or 7:30pm, and sunrise at 7am.

    • Ok good, I’m not the only one! I’ve noticed such a difference in how I feel each day when I get a full night’s sleep and when I don’t. Definitely worth it, I think.

It is pretty amazing the effect that daylight has on our body’s rhythms, isn’t it?
