What a World Cup! Of course I was rooting for Deutschland from the beginning, but was indeed consoled a bit when they won the “consolation” game for 3rd place on Saturday. So I have to say that it was pretty cool to watch the final of Italy vs. France in the middle of Little Italy and see Italia win! “Ole! Ole! Ole! Ole!” and “Italia! Italia! Italia!” was all you could hear on Mulberry Street. You can see some of our photos of the celebrations here.

Plus, who can believe Zidane’s behavior in the final minutes of the game? According to the NY Times, “What could have been a glorious coronation of the soccer career of the French captain Zinédine Zidane became a shameful departure Sunday when he was ejected from the World Cup final for committing an astonishing act of unsportsmanlike behavior.” It’s so sad because this is what he will be remembered for!
