I am a great fan of Naipaul’s A House for Mr. Biswas and A Bend In The River, so I was expecting to enjoy Half a Life a lot more than I did. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy it at all, because I loved it — up until the point where the story ended. But at that moment, I felt completely unsatisifed, like so much more of the story was still to be told. I love Naipaul’s voice in his novels and am always intrigued by his stories of cultural conflict and strangers in strange lands, but I was just hoping for a little more.
Anyway, I’m now moving on to A Handmaid’s Tale. I picked the book up from the library today and almost missed my train stop because I was so engrossed in the story — I can’t wait to read more!
