I’m back in Seattle for the holidays, and guess what? It’s raining. A lot. All day. It hasn’t stopped. But there are still plenty of people moving around Pioneer Square where my folks live, but with very few umbrellas and a whole lot of raincoats. That’s the way people roll here. Just pull up the hood on your raincoat and you’re good to go. Otherwise you could be carrying an umbrella around for at least a third of your life. I never noticed that growing up, but it is a stark contrast to New York. Rain in NYC is an excuse for people to wear their cute, trendy wellington boots. No such thing here, unless you want your wellies to become your everyday wear. Welcome home!
and now it’s SNOWING! maybe it’ll even snow snowballs. isn’t it beautiful?
Welcome home, Mandi! And Merry Christmas to you!
i hope you are having a wonderful time back home! happy holidays!
After you posted this it rained here (Amherst), and I noticed the same thing here ….no one uses umbrellas, or even raincoats–they pull up their winter coat hoods, ignore the rain, and walk fast.
hope you are having fun with your family!
