I’ve already had two cups of coffee today, and I am already thinking about a third. Is this what having your own espresso machine does to you? If so, I am totally okay with that. We have been making a lot of household purchases lately, and although an espresso machine was not high on the priority list, we could not resist a one-year-old machine on Ebay for half of the original price. It arrived on Tuesday, and we are still busy with the taste-testing and finding the perfect settings. Sehr angenehm, if I do say so myself.
The other purchase that has been pleasing us to no end is a new wardrobe for our clothes. We had a much smaller Ikea wardrobe, which worked for one person, but definitely not two. After some searching at Ikea and at some other furniture stores in the area, we eventually fell in love with the idea of an antique. And we found a lovely and well-maintained one-hundred year old wardrobe at a flea market last Sunday and had it delivered the same day. And you know what? It did wonders for my psyche to finally hang up my clothes.
Tonight, we are heading to see “Burn after Reading,” in the original English language, no less. We could also see the dubbed-into-German version, but I can’t handle German coming out of Brad Pitt and John Malkovich’s mouths. It has absolutely nothing to do with my ability to understand the German language — I love seeing actual German movies (e.g. you should definitely go see Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex — “which chronicles the rise and fall of the Red Army Faction, postwar Western Germany’s most active left-wing terrorism organization” — if you have the chance). But it drives me nuts to watch American films dubbed into German. There is just something unnatural about it. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but Batman and Luke Skywalker do not speak German. Lucky for me, there are a number of independent movie houses in Hamburg that will play movies in the original language.
Enough rambling for now. Bis gleich!
