So, back to improving my German vocabulary. While I have managed to vastly improve my passive vocabulary in the last year, I really need to start making those words an active part of my speech. Today’s Word of the Day is:
glaubwürdig: (adjective) credible or believable. Example sentence from the Goethe Institut:
“Zum einen erwarten sie Höchstleistungen, zum anderen können sie ihr Image nur mit sauberem Sport glaubwürdig vermarkten.”
(On the one hand, they expect the best possible performance, while on the other they can only market their image credibly if the sport they sponsor is perceived to be ‘clean’.)
Although the word is not completely new to me, I keep confusing it with merkwürdig (strange/odd) — which definitely makes for some merkwürdig sentences — so today is my day to start using glaubwürdig correctly!
