I have been reading along with Sticking to the Point’s Five Senses Friday for awhile now (with its origins over at abby try again), loving the idea of experientially summing up the week. After a thorough analysis (ahem), I think I am ready to make it a Friday institution over here. So, here we go…
Seeing:
* a shaggy head of hair in the mirror, time for a major overhaul.
* an unidentified furry brown little creature, propped up on the rim of someone’s parked bike, with a bit of grass in hand and looking totally like something out of a cartoon. I would google to try and figure out what kind of rodent he was, if I wasn’t so grossed out by the thought of searching through hundreds of pictures of rodents to do so.
* the reflection of warm light into the living room when sunshine filters through our orange sun umbrella on the balcony (when it is not raining, of course).
Hearing:
* the constant pounding of rain on the streets, as we have experienced a return to Fall weather this week.
* the ticking of the clock in my office because its a ghost town on Friday afternoons. Folks in Germany love to start their weekends a little early. Whenever I come back from lunch on Fridays, I am always the only one left still working, everyone else has cleared the premises. I have contemplated doing the same, but I have a big, scary American work ethic hovering over my shoulder and I am afraid. Not really, but kind of.
Smelling:
* the fresh soil we bought to re-pot some of our plants.
Tasting:
* mmm, strawberries. And even better, strawberries with quark, which is a popular dairy product here in Germany. It doesn’t really have an equivalent in the U.S. as far as I can tell, so I always have a terrible time trying to describe it. According to Wikipedia, it is technically a cheese, but in my opinion it tastes and looks more like a cream. In any case, yummy with fruit!
Feeling:
* tired and wet, thanks to all the gloomy rain.
* a sore knee, thanks to falling off my bike while I was standing still at a stop light. Too many groceries in my basket and slung over my shoulder can throw a girl off balance, I guess.

So, what did you think? Wishing you a great start to your weekend!
Your post brings back memories of my short time in Bonn (was it really a year ago?!). Yum, fresh strawberries! And the ghost town on Friday – thinking about leaving early, but never really doing it. Happy Weekend!
Emily: I know, hard to believe that was last summer, huh? If you’re ever itching to travel back here, just let me know!
