My cousin Todd just finished up his bike ride across America to raise money and awareness for muscular dystrophy in honor of his nephew, Jared! I could try to sum it up for you, but how about I just quote Todd’s Facebook update:
I completed my 4300 mile trans America bicycle ride yesterday morning in Yorktown VA with the cerimonial wheel dip in the Atlantic. Yea- I’m finally done – 78 days of pedaling through 11 states, 120,000 feet of climbing mountains, 6 flat tires, and of course, the countless roadkill of which I luckily didn’t join the ranks! The trip had incredible highs and excruciating lows but in the end it far and away exceeded my wildest expectations. Thanks to everyone who made their unique contribution and offered support through organizing meetups, sending me emails, texts, or making donations on behalf of my nephew Jared. It was great reuniting with friends, some which I hadn’t seen since grade school. I’ll be updating my website (www.jaredsmiles.org) and blog soon with my travel journal. I hope you visit the site and enjoy reading the stories – there are some real beauties to be shared. Special thanks to Mariacar Mendoza of the Desert Sun newspaper, she has done a fantastic series of stories on Jared and my trip from start to end. (www.mydesert.com/Jared) Lastly, Old Town LaQuinta has pulled out all the stops and is throwing a welcome back party and fundraiser for Jared Sept. 23rd 7-9 pm. If you are in the Palm Springs area please join the party. My very best to all!
