Organized Mess

Living room chaos
Living room chaos

I haven’t been around the blog much in the last couple of weeks, a lot of which has to do with the state of our new apartment (as evidenced in the photo above).  Don’t get me wrong, things are definitely moving along.   For example, we are now the proud owners of a refrigerator and a washing machine (which, I guess, makes us officially old).  We’re really pleased as punch with both appliances and still find it exciting to do a load of laundry or to unpack the groceries (okay, I guess that’s the part that gives away our age).

But some of the actual unpacking has to wait until we buy several key items of furniture (e.g., entry way closet, chest of drawers for the bedroom, desk, dining table).*  Given that we’re both extremely busy during the work week (and did some traveling over the Easter weekend), some of the chaos will be sticking around for awhile.  Ah well, so it goes.

I’ll be taking a few days off next week though (a much needed staycation), and along with furniture shopping, I hope to catch up a bit on life and blogging and sleeping.  Yeah, probably a lot of sleeping.

* If you have any hot tips on non-Ikea places to find decent furniture in Berlin, pass them along!

Congrats on the appliances! I remember our first month here with no fridge (thank goodness for freezing window ledges in December) or washer and the four trips to MediaMarkt it took to get what we needed (first EC card, then visas, then letter from employer for financing…). Everything’s such a process here!

I just saw you are planning a trip to Budapest in July – I’m so jealous! We were invited to a wedding there in July, but are already committed to a wedding in CA at the same time. I’m bummed we’re missing out, so I can’t wait to see your photos and hear about our trip!

  2. Shoegirl: Thanks! D is especially thankful that he doesn’t have to drink H-Milch anymore. :) Yes, we’re going to Budapest! It will be my first time, and I just ordered the Lonely Planet guide and can’t wait to pour through it. I’ll be there for a week-long course, but D and I will spend the weekend beforehand being tourists. Overlapping wedding are such a bummer, but I’m sure you’ll find another opportunity to visit the city. I’ll make sure to share any tips I learn!

    Laurel: Thanks for the tip!
