On My Mind

These past few weeks have involved a lot of obsessing, and very little blog posting (in case you haven’t noticed).  The long list of things on my mind have included the following, some obviously more important than others:

* The election and it’s results (happy dance!):

Via Twitter

* Hurricane Sandy and it’s impact on my former hometown and all my friends.

* Adjusting to the switch to treadmill running in the winter darkness:

Via DailyMile

* Wondering what races to put on my schedule for 2013:

* Learning Norwegian.

* Finding the perfect winter jacket that’s stylish, warm, not black, and doesn’t swallow my 5’4″ frame (that combination is harder to find that you might think!):

Via Esprit

* How the hell I’m going to manage to finish my PhD before this time next year.

* How to cook my (first ever) turkey for our annual Thanksgiving-in-Germany feast next week.  Eek!

That’s all I’ve got for you right now, folks.  I’m exhausted and looking forward to a relaxing weekend with absolutely no appointments or running around (though there will be running involved, for sure).

What’s on your mind these days?

  1. Ooh, yes, the winter coat. It’s not so easy to find one! Mine is not really stylish (it’s more on the sporty side and it’s bright turquoise!) but it’s warm. I need to wash it again before I wear it this season, though. Good luck hunting!

    We’re doing Thanksgiving again, too! It’s become very popular with our German friends. This weekend I plan on finalizing the guest list, making my email invitations and sending them out. Only a few weeks to go!

    • Warmth is definitely a key factor for me — I’ll take warm over stylish in most situations, but I’m hoping to combine the best of both worlds somehow! :)

      Thanksgiving! I was actually not planning on organizing anything, but then my German colleagues kept asking me what we were doing to celebrate. :) It’s one of my favorite American traditions, so it’s fun to share. Good luck making all your plans come together!

    We’ve had good results spatchcocking our birds. Got the inspiration from Mark Bittman. Works well, and fast, for small-to-medium turkeys and German-sized ovens. So if you’re not comitted to a particular turkey roasting method, I recommend it. Drops the prep time down from 3-4 hours to <1!
