Ever since I moved to Bremen’s beloved Viertel last fall, I’ve been plotting to wander the neighborhood with my camera to capture some of the beautiful houses (kind of like I did in Berlin). Every single day I admire these gorgeous old homes and their absolutely amazing gardens! Finally last Saturday, everything fell into place — blue skies, warm temperatures, and some free time on my hands…
Because Bremen architecture is on a smaller scale than in other cities, there’s a definite charm that’s hard to beat. While I find the traditional neutral whites and grays quite lovely, I am never one to resist bold color either. Hello green and pink and yellow!
What do the buildings in your neighborhood look like?
Love the colors on some of those houses…. they remind me of cakes and look almost good enough to eat!
Exactly, they remind me of cake and frosting too!
I absolutely LOVE these photos! This is like the direct opposite of Wiesbaden. I mean Wiesbaden is beautiful, it was built almost entirely between 1890 and 1910 (it’s a spa town for rich folk) and the houses are for the most part absolutely stunning Altbaus, but these houses round you? Wow. The blue sky helps, obviously, but it just looks so wonderfully cheerful. Reminds me of pockets of London. Lucky you :D
Thanks for your lovely words! Of course I live in a not-so-pretty Neubau, but I just love admiring all the pretty houses around me. ;) On my brief visit to London, I also noticed a similar feeling in some of the neighborhoods I saw. P.S. I still have to make it down to Wiesbaden on of these days and check it out for myself!
WOW! I had no idea Bremen was so colorful! Reminds me a lot of San Francisco with its many colorful homes. Digging that green one…
