Just Pink

Pink

I’m taking my cue from sfgirlbybay today and trying to spruce up all this February grayness with a little color. Pink, in whatever form, always catches my eye and makes me crave frosted sugar cookies. Really, who could resist? Wow, I feel sweeter already. And there’s lots more where that came from!

Snow, banners, jewelry and an ad

For all of you out there in the DC area, hope you were able to enjoy the Snowpocolypse and not panic. I say that in good fun because we’ve been buried in snow and ice for a good two months now and I’m secretly pleased that we’re not the only ones. Could it be that my Schadenfreude has really kicked in since moving to Germany?

In any case, to fight off the winter blahs, I’ve changed up the banners in my blog template. Now with every page click, you also have a chance to see:

Worldwide Photo Walk: Hamburg
Graffiti in St. Pauli
The Dunes
Beach baskets on Helgoland

In other news, thanks to a tweet and a post from abby try again, I randomly came across the jewelry artist who made one of my favorite rings that I bought once upon a time at Cog & Pearl in Brooklyn. Amber Mahler of Mani Designs does lost wax casting of flowers, leaves and other botanical goodness and turns them in to jewelry that is just exquisite. And now she has an etsy shop! I’ll definitely be checking her out the next time I’m in the market for something pretty.

Oh yeah, and I guess the Super Bowl is today. I won’t be watching it, but sure hope you’ll check out one important ad that won’t be shown.

Thanks, that’s all for now.

Five Senses Friday no. 19

Seeing:
* not much other than the four walls of my office and my apartment. I’ve been sequestering myself lately to get everything done, and although it’s productive, it’s not terribly exciting to talk about.

Hearing:
* the phone in our office ring off the hook. Not for either one of us naturally, but for the colleague who forwarded her calls to our line while she’s away. Playing someone’s secretary is not my idea of fun. Can anyone please tell me why office telephones at a major university do not include voicemail??

Tasting:
* a Ritter chocolate bar to get me over the edge between work and a late dinner.

Feeling:
* slippery ice beneath my feet. I swear, I’ve almost broken my neck about a hundred times on the frozen-solid sidewalks and have personally heard the stories of at least three people who have broken bones in the last few weeks. Two months later, it’s getting old, let me tell you.

Smelling:
* none of my favorite smells, unfortunately.

Although my post today sounds kind of crabby, Five Senses Friday is actually fun!  Take a peak over at abby try again if you’re interested in joining in.

List no. 4: I love the smell of…

  1. Fresh paint.
  2. Pine trees. Reminds me of summers in Montana.
  3. Freshly chopped wood.  Reminds me of my Grandpa.
  4. Baked goods: cinnamon rolls, muffins, bread, cookies, you name it.  Walking by Blue Sky Bakery every morning in Park Slope was heaven.
  5. Hot coffee.
  6. Cut grass.
  7. Popcorn.
  8. Clean laundry.
  9. Soil.
  10. Lavender.
  11. Library books. Must be because I read about a million of them as a kid.

And you?  What are your favorite smells?  What memories do they bring back for you?
