- Spiders. All kinds. They make me freeze with sheer terror. Can’t even see them on TV or in a magazine without shivering.
- Swimming in deep bodies of water. Despite the fact that I spent my entire childhood in a swimming pool, my lungs tighten up with anxiety whenever I can’t see the bottom.
- Close-mindedness.
- Failure.
- Public speaking. Although I appear to have mastered this fear (on the outside, at least), I still do not enjoy it. Especially when I have to present in German. But maybe the next time I have to give a presentation in English, it will seem easy in comparison? It’s all relative, you know.
- Mediocrity.
- Riding my bike without a helmet. Anytime I am tempted, I have visions of terrible bicycle accidents and then my temptations miraculously vanish.
- The sight of a needle or knife piercing skin. I’ve had to cover my eyes during all the news coverage of people getting flu vaccinations this year.
- Apathy.
What scares you?

Good list! I especially identify with #5, and especially today as I have to give a presentation. Hm, I might have to do my own list!
