Before continuing on with photos from last weekend, let me take a second and wish my American readers a happy Independence Day! Hope you’re somewhere warm, bbq-ing, relaxing with friends and family, and watching beautiful fireworks.

Yesterday’s post featured photos from the village that I stayed in last weekend in eastern Germany, and today I’m sharing photos taken during a (really) long bike ride we took through the area, discovering more treasures and even crossing the border into Poland a couple times!
I must admit that I was honestly surprised by all the amazing things to do and see in this part of Germany, and was extremely happy to have all of my prejudices shattered — from the pristine St. Marienthal Cloister, to the crumbling Wasserschloss in Tauchritz, to the artificial Lake Berzdorf (covering what’s left of the strip mines). An added plus: it was very easy to bike between villages and towns and through fields.
Tomorrow’s post will featuring photos from Görlitz. You can also check out the entire album here.
