A Few Fivers

I’ve been neglecting this space a bit because of the crazy schedule I’ve been leading.  To make up for that, here’s a great game of fives from my friend Emily. Play along if you’d like!

5 Things I was doing 10 years ago:

1. Living in the Queen Anne area of Seattle.

2. Taking courses in the History of Renaissance Art, Literature by Women, and Physiological Psychology during the Winter semester of my junior year of college.

3. Spending my third year of college living in a dorm. Retrospectively, two years was probably enough.

4. Working for an AIDS education non-profit with a mentally unstable supervisor. Good thing I was only there for 10 hours a week.

5. Quite honestly, I don’t really remember a lot more than that!

5 Things I was doing 5 years ago:

1. Living in New York City.

2. Taking these courses for my master’s degree: Program Design in Sexual & Reproductive Health, Quantitative Data Analysis for Service-Based Research, Health Management, Reproductive Health & Advocacy, and Law, Policy & Rights.

3. Running a lot of races with the New York Road Runners: Fred Lebow Classic (5 miles), Al Gordon 15k (9.3 miles), Niketown Run for the Parks (4 miles), and the Thomas G. Labrecque Classic (4 miles).

4. Attending the New York University Medical School prom with the med student I was dating at the time.

5. Arranging my summer project with the American Refugee Committee in Sierra Leone.

5 Things I did today:

1. Have a muffin and coffee at Blue Sky Bakery.

2. Shop for new glasses frames with Cari (for her, not for me, although it was tempting!).

3. Skype with my parents.

4. Skype with my boyfriend.

5. Order my nephew a birthday present for his 2nd birthday.

5 Places I have lived:

1. Athens, Greece & Singapore (until I was 3)

2. Seattle (my hometown)

3. Kampala, Uganda (for a year after college)

4. Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan (during grad school)

5. Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn (for the past 4 years)

5 Jobs I have had:

1. babysitter (from 11-12 years old until I left for college)

2. cleaned bathrooms for a semester in college

3. office manager for a holistic eye doctor’s office

4. graduate research assistant for an international maternal mortality prevention program

5. program evaluator for a social service agency serving victims of violence in New York City

5 Things I would do if I won a billion dollars:

1. Start a foundation to fund public health organizations.

2. Travel around the world.

3. Start a scholarship for kids who want to go to college.

4. Buy a brownstone in Brooklyn (that would take care of about $1-2 million).

5. Pay off all my student loans.
