Best of 2009: Resolution

December 31 Resolution you wish you’d stuck with. (You know, there’s always next year…)

Do something that makes you uncomfortable at least once a day.

I created this resolution for 2009 to encourage me to get out of my comfort zone and make sure I’m taking full advantage of every single day — instead of shying away from the things that are hard, face them head on.  At the time, it could have been anything from calling up the cable company to complain about our slow internet, to meeting with scholars in my field in Germany, to joining a group of strangers to spend the afternoon photographing Hamburg.  But as the language and the culture became more familiar and the seemingly insurmountable hurdles turned into everyday tasks, this resolution became harder to keep on a daily basis.  But I still value the idea behind it and rather than have it as a resolution for 2010, would kind of like to keep it around as a reminder — to make sure I keep challenging myself and growing as a person (and keep living up to the title of this blog!).

This post is part of Gwen Bell’s Best of 2009 challenge, which spanned the entire month of December.  Here are the prompts that I participated in:

December 1: Trip
December 2: Restaurant Moment
December 3: Article
December 4: Book
December 8: Moment of Peace
December 9: Challenge
December 11: The Best Place
December 13: Change to Living Space
December 20: New Person
December 25: Gift

I hope you enjoyed this challenge as much as I did!  Even on days when I did not write on a particular prompt, I still went through the process of reflecting (albeit only in my head) and found it a great way to wrap up 2009.  With that, I wish you a good slide into 2010!
