I’m working my way back into regular runs, but am starting with low mileage and gradually increasing back to my base fitness. I hope that this, along with religious stretching and strength training, foam rolling, and icing will keep my body injury free. In any case, I had a lovely week of running. I don’t have much to say about the Shred this week — I got it done, but Level 2 started to get a bit old, and I look forward to moving on to the next (and final) level.
A highlight of this week was discovering my new favorite massage therapist in Berlin: Jaina Hirai of Hirai Healing. She did wonders today for my stiff shoulders and tight quadriceps, and I’m going to make deep tissue massages with her a monthly part of my workout routine.
But anyway, here are my workout details:
- Monday: Rest.
- Tuesday: 2-mile run + Shred (Day 17, Level 2). Although I wasn’t feeling in tip-top shape health-wise, I felt great during this little run. Took it nice and easy, with a 10:39 pace.
- Wednesday: Rest. This wasn’t planned, but completely necessary.
- Thursday: 2-mile run + Shred (Day 18, Level 2). About half-a-mile into this short run I was wondering why I felt so winded, and then discovered my legs were taking me faster than I originally planned! But I went with it anyway, and had a speedy (for me) short run at a 9:41 pace.
- Friday: Shred (Day 19, Level 2).
- Saturday: Shred (Day 20, Level 2).
- Sunday: 3-mile run. I knew I was going to be short on time this morning, so I decided to run by time rather than distance. The run ended up being 29 minutes, and the online mapping software I used calculated a 9:14 pace — which I’m skeptical of because it just didn’t feel that hard. My normal mapping program was on the fritz, but when it’s back up, I plan to double check the distance. In any case, it was nice to be on the run again. Update: Distance was actually 2.95 miles and pace was therefore 9:48.
That’s it for this week! What have you been up to?
I just started JM´s 30 Day Shred myself! (and am trying to get back to running, which I never seem to do in Germany, but love in the US…go figure). Re: JM´s dvds- I also recommend “extreme shed and shred” which is fun. Skip the 6 week 6 pack. It´s completely monotonous.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, and offering tips on Jillian’s various videos. Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s worth it and what’s not. The great thing about the 30-Day Shred is that’s it’s only 25 minutes, and I don’t feel like it’s overkill to also do some running or something else on the same day. I’m in the middle of Level 3 now, and it’s definitely more challenging — but in a really good way, and I can see the difference it’s made.
