Five Years Old!

Can you believe that back in June this blog had it’s 5th birthday?  And moreover, that I did nothing to celebrate?  Well, better late than never, I say.  So for each year, I want to share with you one of my favorite photos and one of my favorite posts from that year (not necessarily related).  You can click on the links if you want to go back to the original posts or albums…

Machu Picchu, Peru. December 2005.

Inca Trail (2005): We made it! We arrived back in Cusco last night after 4 days and 3 nights hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu. It was an amazing and difficult trek which can be summed up with a few central themes: rain, sore muscles, sweat and beautiful views of the Andes…

Rainbow
The West Village, New York. May 2006.

Sans Baggage (2006): Whether I’m traveling across the oceans, across the country or across boroughs — my goal is to never bring more than I can carry. If I can’t schlepp it myself through the streets, in the subways, or to the airport, then it must not be important enough to bring with me…

Wonder Wheel Thrills
Coney Island, New York. September 2007.

Second Chances (2007): In thinking about second chances, the theme for this week’s Sunday Scribblings, I’ve come to the realization that I’m still making my way in life through my first chances.  I see all those first chances as necessarily leading me to my next first chance, and so on.  Is there a point at which you feel like you’ve exhausted your first chances, and must start using your second chances to live life?

Amsterdam
Amsterdam. August 2008.

Leaving New York (2008): New York is a place of extremes, which makes it both wonderful and terrible all at the same time. The beauty of the city is that you can’t have one without the other; it is all or nothing. I have really loved the six years of my life devoted to this place, have made it my home, and wouldn’t trade it for the world. But in order to love it so much, you gotta be strong enough to stand the things that drive you crazy…

Mauer Park
Mauer Park, Berlin. November 2009.

Dear Me (2009): My almost 32 year old self decided to write letters to who I was half a lifetime ago, and half a lifetime in the future…

Thanks for celebrating with me and taking a peak back.  Crazy to think what five years can bring, isn’t it?  What were you doing five years ago?

I love that second chances quote… it’s exactly what I needed to hear today. Thanks for it (and sorry about your leg… my mom just broke her kneecap and it looks horrible having to hobble around all day).

Congratulations on 5 years! I never seem to manage a celebration for a blogiversary over at my site, but it’s gratifying to realize it’s happened and to look back on all those old posts.
