This Time Last Year: January 2009

The blogosphere these days is filled with souls choosing their word to live by for 2010, and I am no different, except that I aiming for a multi-faceted year and have chosen a few different words (like energy and courage) rather than just one.  But this post is more about gaining perspective and taking a look back at January 2009.  I don’t know about you, but blogging is a way for me to keep track of my life, and reflecting back on my posts from a year ago is a good method to acknowledge growth, and sometimes just serves to help me remember and keep me grounded.  Won’t you join me in remembering this time last year?

Organic: “When you can eat just about anything nature has to offer,” Michael Pollan writes in The Omnivore’s Dilemma, “deciding what you should eat will inevitably stir anxiety.”  Nothing has made me think longer and harder about my food choices than this book by Michael Pollan…

A New Year:  2009 is shaping up rather nicely, if I do say so myself.  After a frustratingly long prep phase (which I am convinced will only serve to make things better)…

The Same, Only Different: I spend a lot of time talking or thinking about all the things that have changed in my life since leaving New York and moving to Germany.  But in reality, there is a lot that remains the same, only different…

Day of the Open Door: A brand new hospital, full of fancy equipment, opened its doors to the community yesterday. Beckoning us to come on in and take a look at the state-of-the-art operating and emergency rooms, intensive care stations, and neonatal units…
